Top 5 Yacht Maintenance Tips - Xperience Florida Marine

The sun, salt water and other elements are part of the harsh marine environment; they can be very harmful to every type of your Yacht’s surface. Then, to protect and enhance the appearance of your vessel, it has to be properly maintained.

These are the top 10 Yacht Maintenance tips to take care of your yacht and to enjoy trouble free boating:

1. Pre-departure Check
Take a few extra minutes to check your boat over every time you go sailing. It’s a great way to get to know your boat and spot any problems while you’re in the safety of the marina berth.

2. Never overlook the oil
Make sure you consistently check and change your oil and filter. It takes less than a minute, and it can save you a world of trouble. Also, change the oil every 50 hours or every four months, whichever comes first This can save you from being stuck in the middle of the lake with a buzzer going off or from limping back to the dock.

3. Cleaning & Care
Routine cleaning facilitate a more pleasant and organized environment, but it also goes a long way towards counteracting the long-term effects of environmental wear and tear. Routine waxing and use of anti-fouling paint can also help protect your boat from the elements. You may also want to consider using environmentally-safe products for your boat maintenance needs!

4. Take care of the filter
Most water filters are simple to see and clean. If you ride in a lake with a lot of grass or muck or have to travel through shallow water around boat ramps or canals, you may be taking up some trash through your intake. Luckily, the water filter will catch all of that for you. Make sure this is always cleaned out so you get plenty of water flow to keep the engine running cool.

5. Proper Mooring
One of the most common ways a boat can start to show scratches and damage is not only from when it’s in use- but from when it’s being docked. Make sure lines are securely fastened in place, neatly coiled, and do not show signs of breakage or wear.
